The way I see it is that people want to post links to their websites no matter what, so it's better to provide a specific place to do that rather than try to delete *all* advertisements that get posted in the other areas.

The hope is that people who want to advertise will do so in this category only, and if they don't... their posts will be deleted and they'll be banned.

Nobody wants to read through a good thread about how to improve credit scores or whatever, and find all kinds of ads in the middle to sift through.

Alternatively, if you *do* want to look for a product or service you can come here to see what has been posted. Also remember that reviewing products and services is helpful to others in the community.
