I did this and discovered two collections on my credit report that were still showing as unpaid, even though I paid them several years ago. After I got them cleared from my credit report my score went up by several points. Definitely do this if you haven't done it already.

It's true that inaccuracies on your credit report can harm your credit score. Here are some tips for UK readers wanting to correct any inaccuracies. I realise these will be different to the US.
1) Credit Agreements and Credit Searches - Contact the relevant lender to change or remove details. The will then update the credit reference agencies.
2) Court judgments - If you feel that a judgment has been recorded against you inaccurately contact your local county court. They will update thier records and the credit reference agencies.
3) Bankruptcies - If your bankruptcy is anulled or you have been discharged, send a copy of your Annulment Certificate or Order of Discharge to the credit reference agencies direct.
4) Electoral roll - Contact your local authority to register on the voters roll. Not being named at your current address can decrease your credit score but is one of the easiest things to fix. To find your local authority, follow this link:
