    Angry Rejection letter, effect on my credit score?!

    I applied for Tmobile service on Apr 21, 2009 and was approved for 2 phone lines. So yesterday I got a letter from Tmobile... a REJECTION letter.
    You can read it here;

    What concerns me most is the the part I highlighted. Does this mean they reported me to the credit companies negatively to drop my credit score?

    It sounds like information on your application didn't match information with the credit bureau. If so, it probably threw red flags for potential credit fraud.

    Have you requested the free copy of the report? Couldn't hurt to see what they have, right?

    It doesn't sound like they've reported you to the credit reference agencies. Every lender has their own formula for working out your credit score. They use the information from your credit report provided by the credit agency and the information from your application and apply their own formula to generate your score. This formula can change constantly as the lender's attitude to risk or lending strategy changes.

    Magic's right, you should definitely order a copy of your free credit report to find out what they have based their decision on.

    It's worth pointing out that in the UK (I don't know if this is the same in the US), when you apply for credit a lender does not update your credit report with whether your application has been approved or declined, they just record that they have searched your file.

    It's the same in the US - only inquiries are reported, not approval/denial status.
