Credit Inquiry - Hard Pull and Soft Pull
When someone inquires on your credit report it is possible that it can affect your score adversly. A hard pull is when you apply for credit with a lender, insurance company, or any other 3rd party.
A soft pull is when you pull your own credit. Inquiries like this should not affect your score. A good site to use for this is myfico.com or freecreditreport.com

This is good to know. I used to shop around for loans a lot and would let everyone I talked to pull my credit score. Nobody told me about it hurting my score until one nice loan officer finally did.
Now if I ever have to shop around again I just tell them what my score is and see what they have to offer.“You are the same today that you are going to be in five years from now except for two things: the people with whom you associate and the books you read.” -- Charles Jones

Wow, that was fast! Oh, you are a loan officer I see. You must be one of the good guys.
