    Default Any Advice

I am trying to fix a credit issue regarding an unpaid bill from ending up in the emergency room.

The event occured in 2003, and I had to move shortly thereafter and so never recieved a bill, until today where I got one from the collection agent. The situation is very convoluted as I did end up in the emergency room, but told them I didnt want to be there as I didnt have insurance or money. (Still dont) The doctor told me she would let me out cause I needed to be looked at, and as I stated I moved and never got the bill.

now the collections agent is presenting me with a bill over six years, and more than twice in amount due to interest. I told the creditor just to give me the orginal amount and work out a plan, obviously said no. And it is on my credit report ( the only thing)

SO my questions are for any advise on it. And it is in WA so I wasnt clear on this but if anyone can clear this up for me that would be great.

While I am sure I had to sign something leaving the emergency room I thought in this state that interest could not be assigned unless agreed to in writing to a debt.
And I thought that after 6 years it was a moot point anyways?

If anybody has any advice I would be greatly thankful
    THANKS

First, I'd ask for proof that they own your debt. There are scammers out there that act like collection agencies, but aren't legit.

Next step would be to send a pay-for-delete letter with an offer on how you can pay back part of the amount over time (or however works best for you), via certified mail. The idea here is to get everything in writing, including that the collection will be removed from your credit reports, once it is paid in full (whatever amount it is that you negotiate).

I wouldn't pay anything without having something in writing, and knowing the collection agency did in fact own the debt.

If you have a good credit history then you can argue with it and they will check your credit report...after that you will get your money back...!
