    Default Store Credit Cards and Chex Systems

    I had an account from Best Buy closed on me by HSBC and have been contemplating not paying it off. Can HSBC report me to Chex Systems and prevent me from opening a checking account with another bank? I just paid off what I owed to TD for an overdrawn account and I am worried I won't be able to start another because of the Best Buy card.

    Good question. Do banks look at your credit before issuing a checking account? I've heard of this practice but really don't know anything about the details. <listens attentively>
