Old Cable Bill and Utility Bill HELP!!
Hey Gang,
I have been lazy and now trying to get my credit in order. My GF and I are trying to get a particular loan where we have been preapproved. The only issues an old Power Bill (which i just realized is marked as an open account as per my Credit report) and A Media Com cable bill which was sold to Credit Protection Associates. The power bill = 550 and the Cable Bill = 520 <~~ as per the CRedit protection and they are about 4 years old.
My questions are pretty easy.
1.) has any one ever negotiated with a power company in this case GA Power
2.) on the cable bill how should i negotiate?. I thought about offering 30% as long they mail me the documentation and except a check. The end game here is to show paid as agreed or account paid so the loan will go through. Getting them off my credit report would be nice too.

I haven't negotiated with either, personally, but know it can't hurt to try. Make them an offer and see what happens. Good luck!

Nice, thanks for posting an update. I'll be interested to hear how the cable company responds to your offer.

Well I made my first payment today so we can see how it ends up, once I get the Power bill paid I will call the cable co and see what we can do.

Oh forgot to mention a 190 medical bill turned over to a collection agency, have you ever negotiated those? Is it doable?

I haven't, but everything is negotiable in this world.
Someone else posted some good advice about asking for proof of account ownership from the collection company before agreeing/paying anything. Sounded like a good idea.

Update:
I have cleared out old collections on my report that have to do with collection agencies that I settled. (they were basically paid but hanging around on my report)
Will that help my score any as some were listed as "potentially negative" because they were past collections that were paid.

That should definitely help your scores.
