A few questions regarding disputing items
Hello!
this is my first post and maybe such topic already exists but i haven't found it. My husband has a few old (6 years old) debts because we used to live overseas for a while and he didn't pay them. Now we r about to get into a mortgage and need his score (530) raised at least by 80-100 points. Almost all of the items were sold to collection and original creditors show 0 balances. If he wants to dispute collections should we write directly to credit bureaus or to collectors first? If some items that we sold are old enough (7 years) should we ask for it to be removed or it doesn't hurt anymore? Some old items show recent activity (last year or 2 yrs ago) - why? he didn't pay them. what has to happen so anyone post activity besides payments? Thank you!

dispute with the bureaus first and go from there.

If they are past the reporting time of 7 years then they should be easy to remove. It should state on your experian report when the item falls off. ex. it should say "this item is sheduled to continue on record until july 13,2008. If it is past this point just send them a letter stating that it is past the 7 years reporting period and to please remove. You score should raise anywhere from 15-30 points per deletion.
