Don't know who to pay for collection account
Hi, this is my first post here, but I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I'm in the process of trying to improve my horrendous credit (<620) after a period of employment and resulting overdue bills. One of my bills was sent to a collection agency who reported it to the credit agencies, so I want to pay that one off now.
However, when I contacted the collection agency, they showed my balance as $0. So I called the original vendor, and they also show $0. I know I haven't paid the bill, but I just pulled my Experian report last week and it shows as "In collection" on the report.
Where do I go from here?

I'd get that in writing from both companies and then request the collection cease being reported to the credit bureaus. If they both show $0 balance, how could it be an outstanding collection?
Sounds like neither the collection agency or original creditor is expecting additional money from you.
