Credit is in disarray and am struggling
I don't even know where to start. Although I've had a few hiccups in the past, I've always had adequate credit. That all change a few year ago after I lost my husband and both parents within months of each other.
I went into serious depression and also made some stupid decisions. A year and half after my husband died, I decided to stay home with my 3 daughters. However, I didn't have medical insurance and had multiple medical expense pile up on me. In addition, I have credit card debt and misc. other expenses which have been charged off or sold off.
I went back to work 2 years ago and thought I could get caught up and get out of debt, but due to my daughter's medical expenses, dental expenses and automotive expenses I can't seem to get caught up. We also went through a hurricane a little over a year ago and have had to move twice as a result leading to even more expenses.
I'm now getting constant calls at home and at work and have become depressed and anxious over this mess my life has become.
I've tried credit repair companies, but nothing seemed to happen other than me getting more statements and more calls. Some of these calls get harrassing and threatening.
It seems that there more I research and read, the more confused and overwhelmed I become.
Any advice on how to get started would be greatly appreciated.

Hi - I wonder if bankruptcy might be the way to go in your situation. Here are a few links to give you an idea if a BK might be the better route at this point.
How to know when to bile bankruptcy
How to Tell When It’s Time to Declare Bankruptcy
When Do I Know Its Right To File For Bankruptcy? 5 Top Reasons.
Take a look at some of the info in those articles to see how your situation lines up. Also, try looking at some of these other links for more info. If it doesn't sound right, then traditional "credit repair" would be where to start, I imagine.
I hope this helps! Let us know what you think and what you decide to do.

Thanks for the information. When my husband became ill in 1997, we had to file bankruptcy in close to 10 years ago. Even though it was a full discharge, it will be on my credit until June 2011.
So I am probably going to look into credit repair. I also got some information from a lawyer from a website I found. Not too sure if it's something beneficial or not so I'm researching them.
Lemon Law Lawyer, Fair Debt Collection Attorney, Fair Credit Reporting Attorney - Attorneys For Consumers
Does anyone have any experience with such a system?
I'm some of my worse collection calls are coming from older debts. When I looked up the statute of limitations for Texas, discovered that it's 4 years. I'm wondering if it's better to just focus on paying off the newer stuff and letting the old fall off in a few years.

Hi, I can empathise. I went through the similar type of thing with regards to the cycle of debt and it became so vast that I became stressed. I personally took out a consolidation loan which reduced my debt overall and now I pay a single manageable payment, which I feel has given me a new lease of life. Every situation is different and you probably best of speaking to a financial advisor to see what the best option for you is.
