Default Going to Grad School

Hi forum,

I recently was accepted to a grad program at a state university and am looking for ways to finance the degree. I am curious about student loans - like where should I be looking and what should I be wary of?

Thanks!

Default Student Loans and Grad School

I recently finished a Masters Degree financed entirely by Federal student loans and a half-time assistantship. The assistantship covered my tuition and fees and payed about half of my monthly living expenses. I would highly recommend applying for one if you need help financing your education.

As far as student loans, I qualified for plenty through the FAFSA process. My biggest mistake was accepting all of what I qualified for. During my graduate program I used that money for plenty of luxuries and other things I didn't truly need. Now, in this economy, I am finding it difficult to find a good job that pays enough to cover the student loan debt I accrued.

Lesson: Only borrow what you need, not what they are willing to lend you.
